2020 Green Fees and Hockey Cards

What do these two things have in common? They both may have been rare. As I flip through my old hockey cards during these trying times, I feel the early 1970’s nostalgia creep inside when I opened dime packs and chewed break-your-teeth gum—the rite of passage for young Canadian boys. Golf participation has turned the clock back this year and our courses have been jammed. This had not been the case over the last few years. How have you fared in getting a favoured tee time? You are now competing with novice golfers, bored social media types who need fresh air and lungers who are using vintage golf clubs with persimmon heads that had been collecting dust in the garage. Is golf making a comeback? Speak to me after the pandemic when golfers and “golfers” now have other choices. It is great for the game though as new players have been exposed to its many merits. Like my 1973-74 All-Star Bobby Orr card and cherished memories of packed Saturday morning tee times at my old Woodstock golf club of Craigowan, hopefully we have resurrected the past popularity.
