Kananaskis Country  GC and the Flood

June 2013 was a memorable month for golfers residing in the Calgary/Canmore/Kananaskis/Banff corridor and not in a positive way. Kananaskis Country’s two Government of Alberta owned Mount Kidd and Mount Lorette golf courses were almost completely wiped out by Alberta’s worst recorded flood. https://www.rmoutlook.com/local-sports/kananaskis-golf-course-reopens-all-36-holes-after-5-years-1572854. Following this natural disaster, questions were asked whether these two gems would ever be resurrected. Five years later, there was a huge sense of relief and excitement for the community when they were re-opened after significant renovations. Kidd and Lorette are back on line and they should be included in your trip itinerary. The Highway 40 drive from the Trans-Canada Highway to the courses transfixes with the awesome mountains and surroundings. These walkable courses have a nice practice range to get you started. Banff Springs GC and Stewart Creek GC and Silvertip GC in nearby Canmore may be more well known to international golfers. However, take the one hour drive from Banff, soak in the scenery and play the well priced gems of Kidd and Lorette. I say the best Canadian golf including visuals is in this Albertan area and if you include Jasper then you will know why this is world class golf. This is spectacular Canadian golf that smacks you in the mouth. Albertans love their beef, oil and maybe their golf even more. Glad to speak with you so you can learn more or I can build an itinerary for your next custom golf trip. I can be contacted at 250-864-4051, wayne@athlonegolftours.com in British Columbia.
