Will Golfers Look Beyond the U.S. Due to Currency Exchange?

For those who have read past posts of mine, you will know I talk about currency exchanges and how it may influence your decision to choose a golf destination. Since we are a Canadian golf tour operator providing custom inbound and outbound tours, it is important to stay on top of trends and help our Athlone golfing clients with advice. Some numbers stare clearly at me this week when examining currency exchanges—1 Euro=1.48 Canadian and 1 US greenback=1.44 Canadian. Wow, they are getting close to one another. This is a flashing neon light for golfers to seriously consider Ireland, Portugal and other non-UK European golf destinations. The U.S. has become expensive for more budget-conscious Canadian golfers and they are hesitating to travel to our southern friends. I like to state, “Americans feed their own engine”. What do I mean? American golfers like staying in their country to play their good to exceptional golf courses and often fill courses without outsiders needed. However with the Euro buying 1.03 USD, American golfers too should get more curious and take advantage of going to the old country to sip their Rioja wine, play a dramatic links golf course like Carne in faraway Belmullet and soak in European culture in Biarritz over a long, lingering French meal. As for Canadians, with impending 25% tariffs coming to Canada from incoming U.S. President Trump, our Canuck dollar will dip even further. Canadian golfers may choose to play golf in their own country during the spring to fall seasons like in PEI or BC rather than the much more pricey Florida trip or countries like Mexico and Dominican Republic that are based on USD. I am a big believer in Canadian golf coast to coast. We all feel it in our bones that dramatic shifts are going to happen globally in so many ways this year. Perhaps you should shift your own thinking and travel to Europe for golf (or Canada) rather than the U.S. with the present currency exchanges. Later this year or in 2026 it may be a whole different ball game on where to travel. Stay tuned…
