Top10 of VisitScotland Expo
Last week’s golf fam trip to the Highlands and through Perthshire and two days of business meetings at VisitScotland Expo produced some lasting impressions about Scottish culture. Here is my top ten list:
1. Haggis can be digested in small portions. Just don’t think about what it is made of and maybe have ketchup handy.
2. Scotland can be golfed without using rain gear on three consecutive days. Just ensure you pray to Robbie Burns and use sunblock. Oh right…you didn’t have it in your bag because you said, “Accchhh nooo I dooon’t need that!”
3. Listening to the pipes and drums at Edinburgh Castle can move you to tears. And that is a good thing.
4. Rangers can beat Celtic even though they were huge underdogs. Either way, Glasgow set records for pints consumed.
5. Walk up the Royal Mile in Edinburgh and you will not be disappointed. End at Edinburgh Castle and soak in the sights on both sides. This place is magnificent as advertised.
6. You can understand the Scottish accent but have a translator nearby in case he is a Glaswegian. They can speak really quickly.
7. Scotland has a growing gin industry. Ladies can now match the drinking prowess of gents who prefer whiskies.
8. North Americans do not want to add an ice cube to whisky or a Scotsman will Braveheart you. Only add a pinch of water if needed.
9. Check your ancestry back centuries. You just may have Scot blood in you. Ask yourself, “Am I thrifty”?
10. While driving in the coach to the beautiful Highlands we witnessed sun, rain, snow and sleet within 30 minutes. Have all kinds of weather gear in your bag and say thanks Scotland I cherish getting hypothermia but will carry it as a badge of honour!
