Ryder Cup Needs Fans
The Masters, Open Championship and Ryder Cup are my trifecta of golfing events to watch. Hearing the patron roars when an eagle is sunk on 13, the more polite British applause following a fifty yard putt into the hole of an Open links venue and the boisterous celebration of fans and players alike after a winning putt sunk at Ryder Cup is an integral part of the whole experience. Without participation of fans, an event is only an Easter egg without the chocolate. The Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits should be postponed until 2021. COVID-19 fits into the same category as 9/11 when they postponed that year’s competition by a year due to this evil act. I can’t imagine what it would be like for the Mr. Poulter aka the Mailman to deliver in Wisconsin and all you hear are a couple of people screaming. I want to hear the catchy European songs (and less so, of the most boring USA! USA!). It is the right thing to do for golfers, travellers, fans, tv viewers and the event. Ask the players too and deep down inside they will agree. Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole
