Then Wear the White Golf Socks and Replace the Hoodie
I have noticed recent news coverage about dress code infractions over black socks and hoodies. Private golf clubs (and many public ones) are entitled to create such policies. I like them as I have always felt golf should sit on a higher plane compared to other sports. Getting huffy or expressing outrage on Facebook and Twitter to generate likes and sympathy votes are not the right strategies and may ostracize you from that club and others. Individuals may disagree and that is fine but I think you should respect these policies. If you don’t like them you can play at other golf courses where there is flexibility on what you can wear. Is it really that hard to replace your black socks with white? Is it really that difficult to replace your hoodie with a comfortable sweater and toque? There are more serious concerns to worry about. Playing at a private golf club is a privilege and not a right. Members of the private club most likely want these standards enforced. I embrace such traditions. Remember—it is not always about you and what you want.
