“Nice trophy”. “Congratulations on the win”. These are some of the comments made to me by strangers and security officials in Kelowna Airport when I was flying back from BC to my old Ontario stomping grounds to visit family and friends. We call the Sturgeon Head a “major” championship for our gang of close golfing friends hosted brilliantly by our leader, Chief. The tournament has a storied history dating back to 1997 when I was the inaugural winner and has been held in Muskoka or Collingwood, Ontario. The trophy shows each year’s winner and there is even an asterisk comment found at the bottom due to a contentious finish. This is serious stuff where rules are followed and every putt needs to drop into the cup (no raking). The winner proudly carries the trophy home and attempts to prominently display it at home (before our wives push it somewhere into a dark corner). Golf trips and get togethers are special and provide great fun. I recommend buying a trophy to celebrate such events. It is a symbol of fine competition, grand camaraderie and feeling like Tiger when you triumph.
