Hoisting the Golf Bag on your Shoulders

When I was a tyke playing at Craigowan GC in Woodstock, Ontario, you carried your bag on one shoulder. There were no brilliant designers back in the ’70’s that thought sensibly to have clacking irons and persimmon woods better distributed on two straps of your carry bag. It was the era when you did not question sensibilities even though there might be long term damage with curvature of the spine. Back then you did not use pull carts (trolleys) or power carts (buggies). These aids were for the old codgers. We knew better. Now, golfers have highfalutin bags with padded double straps. Better balance you see and logical. Healthier for the back. The pandemic has seen golfers embrace old school like this and walk more. Walking should be part of the game if you are healthy enough. I use a pull cart the majority of time since I am one of those older guys that I thought about during the days of songs from Gerry Rafferty and the Eagles. No Mr. Virus back then causing consternation. Freedom baby. Just, “Do you want to putt for nickels on the putting green for a Mars bar and a Fanta Cream Soda”? Oh, the good old days. Yes indeed…
