How Important is Weather for your golf trip?
Canadian golfers are a glutton for weather punishment. Our deep Scottish roots (Nova Scotia=New Scotland) make this country the place of choice along with Ireland and other parts of the UK for our links golf fix. We are willing to brave the cool temperatures, swirling wind, occasional hail, lashing rain and some sun all in the chance of draining a birdie putt. Upon reviewing trips with group leaders, we do hear stories of terrible weather. However, they return time and time again for more links experiences and great camaraderie. The tiny sandwiches, whiskies and pints sipped in the clubhouse following the epic round help to combat the beaten down feeling caused by Mother Nature. Names like The Old Course, Royal Dornoch and lesser known Brora with electrified fences and sheep dung will continue to be pursued. Sunshine of Portugal or Spain? Maybe in the future many say. But a true badge of honour is playing through weather pains. And the smart use of the toque (think of Bob and Doug McKenzie). Bring it on say Canucks! After all, we know snow…
